What is LIGHT-F Project?

The Project for Improvement of Livelihoods and Well-being of Female Home Based Workers in the Informal Economic Sector in Sindh Province (LIGHT-F Project) aims to improve the livelihoods and well-being of female home-based workers (FHBWs) and their families in Pakistan.

Since FHBWs work individually from home, it is difficult to know their actual work conditions. They are sometimes called “invisible workers.” Pakistan requires quality labor force including female for its sustainable economic growth. Assisting FHBWs in playing active roles in the economy is important not only for women empowerment but also for overall economic growth of Pakistan.

Many FHBWs face the following problems:

  1. unstable and unfair remuneration,
  2. poor working conditions,
  3. low productivity,
  4. low bargaining power due to lack of organizations,
  5. limited access to needed financial services, vocational training, etc., and
  6. lack of access to insurance and basic social services to deal with accidents and illnesses.

This Project supported promoting equitable economic growth and human security in Pakistan by seeking to improve the livelihoods and welfare levels of the informal economy.
