Session 6: Motivation

Objective:

  • To encourage FHBWs not to abandon their business ventures easily.
  • To sensitise FHBWs to the obstacles preventing them from continuing their journey, it is necessary to identify the obstacles.
  • To raise awareness about unconscious bias and the significance of intrinsic motivation and goal setting.

Activities:

  1. Introductory question: Ask participants if they have ever given up their business/job in the middle of course. Ask participants what circumstances/reasons led them to quit their business/job. The facilitator notes down their answers. The facilitator introduces the session topic to the participants.
  2. Case story: Show the case story theatre play of Ms. Amna and others. Discuss how the participants feel about the play.
  3. Explanation of concepts: Explain about unconscious bias, intrinsic motivation, and extrinsic motivation. Discuss and analyse the case story with this concept.
  4. Analyse own breaks: Reflect on their reason for quitting; ask and discuss with participants what internal factors are preventing them from continuing their business/job.
  5. Redefining goals for their business/job: Explain the difference of mastery goals and performance goals. Ask participants to think about their unconscious bias and rethink their goals to continue/start their business/job. Ask participants to note it down.
  6. Conclusion: Ask feedback from the participants and summarise the session’s objective.
