Session 5: Quality and Hygiene

Objective: 

  • To recognise the importance of cleanliness in terms of quality and price
  • To develop a plan for enhancing personal hygiene, workplace sanitation, and product quality

Activities:

  1. Introduction: Introduce the topics to the participants by showing 2 different pictures of the products. Ask participants which products are attractive for customers.
  2. Short skit (Role play or illustration story): Run the short skit. Customers went shopping in the city. The clothing Kuruti picked up was stained. The shopkeeper explained that washing will remove the stain. The customer purchased and washed it, but the stain remained. She returned to the shop to lodge a complaint.
  3. Cause and measures against uncleanliness: Ask participants to list the causes of product uncleanliness. Then, discuss the causes of unhygienic personal behaviours and the working environment, as well as preventative measures.
  4. Short skit (Role play or illustration story): Display the short skit. The shopkeeper decided to reject the products that did not meet hygienic requirements. (The shopkeeper initially accepts bulk orders and purchases of all items. However, the shopkeeper now inspects the cleanliness of products upon receipt and purchases only those that meet their hygienic standards. Now, 8 shirts out of 30 are rejected by the shopkeeper. The BDG leaders return with a sad face and give the artisan 586 PKR profit rather than 800 PKR. Everyone is wondering why the profit has decreased by 214 PKR. Then she explains the reason to them.
  5. Case story (Ayesha): Read the case story of Ayesha of how she took measures against the uncleanliness of products.
  6. Summary: Discuss with participants what they learnt from this session. Summarise what kind of measures can be taken to avoid the unwanted situation.
